CONVERSION

CONVERSION OF MINIATURAS TO CREATE PERSONALITY

To differentiate your army from the rest giving them a personal touch making those long lines of the same figure look like separate individuals Conversion is the answer.

Although painting is the most common method to achieve this it still does not always avoid the effect of a line of different coloured clones.

White Metal of which figures are made is a maleable product which you can use to your advantage to perform simple transformations without having to use Green Stuff (epoxy) or nasty glues. With a simple scalpel, pliers and some concentration you can easily alter figure posture.

I say Scalpel and not cutter for the blades on these may break as they have a thinner finer blade. The scalpel can cut White Metal easily.
Many of the weapons carried by miniatures are joined or stuck to an extremity or to the body of the figure. In the first case (as with Lances or Pikes) the proces is not complicated. Once you cut the connection with a scalpel you can pressure the extremities with the pliers into the desired posture

.

In the second case (often with Shorter weapons) it is more laborious. Having separated the weapons from the body you have to file the parts to smooth into shape disguising the cut area as folds in the clothes and with the weapon file it into shape reducing it's thickness in some cases.Click here for image.

With pliers you can turn the head slightly being very careful not to deform it with too much pressure. Click here for image.

You must take into account the thickness of the neck of the figure gaging the ammount you can turn the head. If the figure has an all over covering helmet, forget it.
